The GIRLS of ‘SNL’

The women of Saturday Night Live spoofed HBO’s GIRLS to perfection this past weekend, and while host Tina Fey pulled off one heck of a rubber-handed Albanian, it was newcomer Noël Wells as Lena Dunham’s Hannah Horvath who had me in total awe of her ability to impersonate.

It’s supremely satisfying to see hilarious women at the helm of a once very male-dominated genre; Tina (if I may), Noël, Lena, my hat is tipped to you. In Fey’s Bossypants, she speaks candidly about the sexism she faced during her entry into the world of comedy. Now, she’s regarded not just as “a funny woman” in the industry, but rather as one of the best comedians period. If Noël’s first introduction is any indication, she too is on her way.

If only every Craigslist roommate search led to someone like Blerta.

Any thoughts on SNL’s newest cast member, Noël? (Or if you caught the entire episode, what did you think about all the new hires?) Did this fake promo get anyone else really excited for the actual new season of GIRLS?

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts–it’s only been a weekend apart but we’ve missed you guys so much.

I thought this season started off really well, high energy and the new cast seemed ready to be there. Kate Mckinnon during the meth ad did it for me though, I was laughing way too much.

      the meth ad was genius!

  • Charlotte Fassler

I am very hungry, can I eat donut from your head?

  • Marissa Joy

I actually thought Kate McKinnon’s Jessa was pretty hilarious and flawless. They were all spot on, though!

I’ve watched it three times. Kate Mc Kinnon as Jenna was perfection. Noel Wells the specific mannerisms of Dunham. I just wish SNL had not hired 5 men and 1 woman. Seems like the women are the ones hitting out of the park. Blerta was hilarious!
