The MTV Video Music Awards are kind of hit or miss, but I feel like last night’s were uncharacteristically good. I think I might be really into everyone who’s famous right now; they were all giving me a hearty homemade laugh last night, both by accident and on purpose. Here were seven times I very genuinely lol’d:
When Beyoncé brought Blue Ivy as her date.
It was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen and I seriously can’t get over how much Blue looks like Jay Z. It kills and delights me in equal parts.
When Britney Spears so obviously lip-synced and no one cared.
Remember how DRAMA it was when a singer was caught lip-syncing 10 years ago? R.I.P. Ashley Simpson’s career. Maybe we all feel a little tender toward Britney now because of the year that must not be named (2007). And also more forgiving when it comes to a performance involving a full dance routine, which seems only fair. But she really is comically horrible at lip-syncing, bless her heart.
When Ariana Grande sang and exercised at the same time.
On the other hand, I was dying when Ariana was somehow doing incredible live runs while riding an exercise bike. Like, what kind of sorcery…?! Can you even breathe while exercising: Y/N?
When Drake obsessed over Rihanna for five minutes.
There is little I love more than Drake’s love for Rihanna. It’s palpable. Or super literal as seen above when he presented her with the 2016 Vanguard Award.
Robyn & Aubrey forever.
When Beyoncé performed for 15 minutes.

The performance basically included all of Lemonade, because why wouldn’t it? Performing one or two songs is so Basic Pop Star. So 2015!!! Every time a new song started I was a mix of surprised and completely not at all.
When Kanye was semi-self-aware during his 6-minute speech.
I kind of loved Kanye West’s speech last night. Especially the beginning:
“I came here to present my new video. But before I do that, Imma talk.” Um, lol. And then: “Now, later tonight, ‘Famous’ might lose to Beyoncé, but I can’t be mad. I’m always wishing for Beyoncé to win, so…”
You can read his full speech here. Every time he said “Bro!” I laughed like a good little sheep.
When Beyoncé creeped up on Chance the Rapper.
Watch above to see Chance the Rapper and an MTV Correspondent freak out when Beyoncé creeps up behind them. Can you even imagine?
P.S. If you slept through the VMAs, good for you. Here’s a highlight real of the whole thing:
