The Very Best Swimsuits, According to Team MR
06.07.19

If you think about it, swimwear is just underwear that’s socially acceptable to wear in public. Sure, it’s made of pool-appropriate fabrics and designed to keep the necessary body parts concealed while you splash around — but really, when you’re shopping for a new swimsuit, you’re shopping for a bra and undies that you’ll feel okay wearing in front of hundreds of strangers. Which is why finding a good one can be so stressful.

As a 28-year-old woman, I’ve been searching for a swimsuit that hits the perfect balance of comfortable, flattering, and cute for about… 15 years. I’ve come close a couple of times, but still the search continues. I know I’m not alone in this hunt, because in the lead up to every summer I hear the beach- and pool-loving folks around me beg one another for swimwear recommendations. If you’re as hungry for recs as I am, you’ve come to the right place! Below, Team MR share the swimsuit they’re actually excited to wear this summer.

Lisa Marie Fernandez Genevieve bikini
Picked by: Leandra, Founder

I’m a big fan of the high-waist bikini bottom, and the fabric on LMF’s suits tend to make me feel like I’m in high-performance athletic apparel, only cooler (great use of color and print). I like to wear this zipper-bottom pair particularly with cardigans buttoned from the top down with the last two buttons left open or long-sleeve shirts half tucked into it.

If I had infinite funds, I’d fill a swimming pool with: My kids’ nail clippings.

She Made Me Essential Baby Doll crochet bikini top with Solid & Striped “The Brigitte” Bottom
Picked by: Elizabeth, Market Strategist

To be quite transparent, I tried this top on once when we pulled it for a shoot (ohhhh the perks of doing market!) and I felt like a literal baby doll — hence the name. To balance out the delicate and princess-y aspect of the top, the straps make it quite sexy. The bottoms are also amazing. I own them in “The Ginger” colorway. It has full coverage where it counts, is high-waisted which I love (I sadly don’t usually get much of a tan) and is a little bit “cheeky” on the butt. I chose “The Brigitte” pattern because it matches the top, of course. Swimwear can be thoughtful too.

If I had infinite funds, I’d fill a swimming pool with: French bulldogs. However, they don’t swim very well. One time, my dog Bow saw me on a pool floaty and jumped in after me. Her jump was an embarrassment — launching maybe two inches. I jumped in after her, and she was horrified with what had just taken place. So maybe, French bulldogs *on pool floaties*.

Marysia Palm Springs Tie-Top and Bottom
Picked by: Harling, Fashion Director and Brand Strategist

I’ve had this swimsuit for years and it’s definitely showing typical signs of wear, but I can’t bear to retire it because it’s the best thing I’ve ever tread water in. I mean that emotionally, not literally, because I’m sure there are better options out there for water sports, but this bikini is by far my favorite for the average day of dipping and drying. It’s super cute (scallops!), comfortable (no digging), and flattering (in the sense that it makes me feel good). I recommend it to everyone, with the caveat that I wish it didn’t cost an arm and an innertube.

If I had infinite funds, I’d fill a swimming pool with: Oat milk. (Sorry, I know cliché month is over).

The Morgan Bikini by Solid & Striped
Picked by: Andrea Araujo, Director of Client Services and Production

I. Hate. Swimsuit. Shopping. But this one is simple and unfussy and surprisingly supportive. I have it a few colors but always end up picking up the black one which is super easy with cutoffs and a white button down.

If I had infinite funds, I’d fill a swimming pool with: cool ranch doritos!!!

The Fold The One swimsuit
Picked by: Gyan, Managing Editor

Shopping for swimmers is my own personal nightmare. I have a 32DDD cup, so have always found it hard to find cute — and supportive — swimsuits in my size. I came across The Fold on Instagram and was hesitant at first because I normally avoid shopping for bras and swimwear online but bit the bullet and, hoo boy, am I glad I did. I can without a doubt say this is the best swimsuit I’ve ever owned. Bonus: The fabric is made of 78% recycled fishing nets and other recycled waste.

If I had infinite funds, I’d fill a swimming pool with: Jo Malone wood sage and sea salt cologne. (BYO goggles, everyone!)

Hunza G Maria Nile Swimsuit
Picked by: Jasmin Aujla, Director of Partnerships

I basically wore this all last summer and this year will be no different. It’s SO flattering, cut relatively high which makes my 5ft2 frame look just a little bit longer and is very comfortable. Also works as a great top!

If I had infinite funds, I’d fill a swimming pool with: Rainbows and smiles. Also McDonald’s French fries.

PALE Azabache Bikini at Lou & Grey
Picked by: Patty, Head of Partnerships

I love the cut of the top, it’s supportive without being restrictive, and the bottom has justtttt enough butt coverage, which I’m very picky about when it comes to swimsuits. I swam and hiked in this and it was perfect. Also such a fun retro pattern.

If I had infinite funds, I’d fill a swimming pool with: The submerged interior of the Friends apartment or Simpson’s living room like the Ikea ad but underwater and everyone would have to wear a mermaid tail and a tank of oxygen to hang out and it would be awesome.

Solid & Striped Hollywood One Piece
Picked by: Starling Irving, Office Coordinator

A flattering one piece that fits my long torso? Sign me the funk up. Major bonus points for the fact that it’s the only one piece I’ve ever come across that makes use of the little boobage I have. Paired with some cateye sunglasses, this suit makes me feel like a lounging off-duty Hollywood starlet hiding away from the paparazzi.

If I had infinite funds, I’d fill a swimming pool with: Spaghetti in olive oil packed down very tightly. Then I’d try to run across the length of the pool without sinking in. Lifeguards would be uniquely trained.
