There Are Sooooo Many Good Phoebe-Era Céline Pieces on Sale Right Now
10.31.18

Searches for “Celine” on The RealReal increased 52 percent compared with the average for September over the weekend following Hedi Slimane’s debut, according to Business of Fashion. That same weekend, Vestiaire Collective’s Celine section experienced a 275 percent increase in visits, and the number of Celine products sold increased by 43 percent compared to the same time last year. Similarly, there was a 225 percent search increase on eBay for “Phoebe Philo” and a 700 percent increase for “Celine” the following week (compared to average search volume for Celine in 2018). I couldn’t tell you how much my personal browsing for Phoebe Philo-era Celine pieces contributed to these statistics, but one thing is certainly clear: The desire to acquire them now that the brand has adopted such a distinctly different aesthetic extends well beyond my own extensive lineup of Google Chrome tabs.

On top of the increase in general interest, consigned Celine merchandise (or should I say Céline merchandise) is also getting more expensive. Business of Fashion reports that prices are up seven percent on The Real Real, and certain Philo-designed items have spiked 30 percent. My hunch is that they will only go up from here, especially as Philo’s legacy continues to grow in mystique. Ergo, henceforth and thus, if you’re contemplating investing in keepsake from Old Celine (as pre-Slimane pieces are now cheekily being tagged on Instagram), the best time to do so is RIGHT NOW.

To this aim, I’ve done extensive market research in search of all the best Celine merchandise on the internet at the moment, rifling through page after page of precious (and mostly consigned) treasures. As much as I would like to buy all of them myself, that seems financially inadvisable, so I’m sharing my findings with you below in hopes that the fruits of my labor might benefit another Philophile. Because a lot of the stuff I came across was wildly expensive, I broke down my edit according to price range with a cap of $1,000 (though if you’re willing to spend nearly double that, may I kindly suggest this magnificent dress?). Meet me in the comments and let me know what you’re eyeing.
