Olivia Culpo Loves Footie Pajamas, Never Forgets Her Vitamins

The first time I met Olivia Culpo, I had 15 minutes with her during one of those weird press set-ups where celebrities take mini-interviews all day between posing for photos and vamping for various publications’ Snapchats. I’m a beauty writer by trade, so we spent the majority of that time waxing poetic on the benefits of exfoliation. The second time I met her — this time — we were in the middle of a Stella Artois event (she’s an ambassador for the brand), and, rather than talk beer, we returned to the topic of beauty. Specifically, her morning routine. I was curious to find out what she does every morning to make her face look so damn dewy.  — As told to Bibi Deitz


Wake up, get the brain going

I definitely switch it up, but I am a big fan of sleeping in feet pajamas. They’re so fun and ridiculous looking, and they’re one of my favorite holiday traditions.

I usually wake up around 8 or 8:30 a.m. I like to get up and go to my computer, check my email, and be on top of as many work things as I possibly can. I [also] try to meditate in the morning…just set a timer and sit. Sometimes I’ll make a list of five things I’m really grateful for.

Next up, skin

I don’t wash my face in the morning; I like to keep my natural oils. For the past four-to-five years, that’s what I’ve always done. I exfoliate every night, and I use a Clarisonic, so in the morning, I don’t want to strip my face of any good bacteria and natural oils. It gives me a dewy glow.

A big thing for me in preventing dry, dull skin is definitely the Clarisonic. I also use a face scrub by Dr. Barbara Sturm — she’s incredible — or Dr. Lancer’s polish. Anything that gets rid of all the dry, dead skin cells. I want to try to recreate the new, supple, glowing skin that’s underneath all the dead skin. I also try to get plenty of sleep, drink lots of water, and use a humidifier in the winter.

[In the morning], I really like Kate Somerville’s under-eye de-puffing stick from the goat milk line. I love that. Another thing that I’m completely loving is Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Calming Serum. It gets rid of redness, and has tons of antioxidants. Then I use Charlotte Tilbury’s under-eye cream. I’ll always use an SPF in the morning; usually I’ll use Joanna Vargas, because it’s not too heavy. For my lips, I love Tarte lip balm.

Then I get moving

After I take care of my skin, I work out. I’ll go to a spin class or go for a run or I’ll take a barre class. After my workout, I’ll have oatmeal with peanut butter and bananas, or an egg-white omelet, or a smoothie of some kind. I also love smoothie bowls.

When I make a smoothie, I like to use some sort of protein powder. Sometimes I’ll add maca, and then frozen blueberries, strawberries, bananas, and a little bit of almond milk.

I don’t like to have too much coffee; I try to stick to green tea, because coffee’s so dehydrating for your skin, but if I have coffee, I’ll usually go out and get it, depending on where I am. In L.A., I love Groundwork and Coffee Commissary.

On days off

For makeup on my days off, I have to curl my eyelashes. I like to do my brows using a blank mascara wand and a hairspray to keep it in place. I’ll use any hairspray — L’Oreal, Ouai, Oribe, whatever. I like to use Brow Wiz on my eyebrows, and I like Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer. I use BareMinerals tinted lip balm on my lips. I also love lipliner. My favorite right now is MAC Lip Pencil in Whirl.

One thing I don’t forget

I definitely take my vitamins. I like Olly gummy vitamins; I actually take them, because they taste really good.
