Announcement! More so than the one-arm-only blouse or those cutouts-around-the-bicep things you’ve been seeing, puffy princess sleeves are this summer’s off-the-shoulder top, only more funky. (Bless up to the ’80s.) Because it’s a trend in the age of the internet, its shelf life is guaranteed to be short-lived. Take advantage now before you see it everywhere and get sick of it. Here’s how.
The Full Monty
With a trend as ephemeral as this one, I say why not blow it out of the swimming pool and win the participation award. Start with a blouse that boasts gigantic, floofy poofs (this Caroline Constas one has some sort of crinoline inside it to keep its shape), then pair it with pants that throw the whole thing off, like these lime Bode babies. The high waist and straight, cropped leg keep the volume in proportion; blocky shoes will hold you down so that you don’t get caught up in a gust of wind and fly away.
The Medium Monty
So you still love your OTS top. That’s okay! So do I! This Johanna Ortiz blouse offers a half-and-half option, which everyone knows tastes better than a dairy substitute, whether you’re lactose intolerant or not. Because it’s so fancy, I styled it with track shorts, and because when you give a mouse a cookie it’s going to want a glass of half-and-half, socks + sneaks felt like the best bottom-half plan of attack.
The Soft Monty
A puffy sleeve is a puffy sleeve; just because you don’t go big does not mean you have to go home. Leopard goes a long way. When you pair stripes with it, your outfit goes even farther. In fact, if you really ran with it, you could make this so-called ephemeral trend stick around much longer.
Whatever you do, I’m on board, too! Show me in the comments how you’re wearing this!
