Black Friday 2016 Deals: What to Buy, Depending on Your Needs

Guess what? We did the research for you

Since you’re reading this with the help of an internet connection, it’s safe to assume you’re aware it’s Black Friday. If you don’t already know via several flashing pop-ups about deals!and!sales! and a barrage of junk emails featuring gifs of gifts, you’ll certainly know thanks to us. We may have mentioned it a time or two:

We talked about where you can steal these deals and how to conquer your shopping paralysis.

We talked about what you should ask yourself before you do so and what to buy once you’ve answered those.

We also talked about Thanksgiving burnout, which, after a little internet prodding, I feel confident in diagnosing as The Real Deal. Did you know the term Black Friday first referred to the workforce calling out sick in droves the day after Thanksgiving because companies didn’t used to provide it off? That was 1951. (Thanks, Snopes.) Maybe that means the burnout we feel is baked into our bones and has less to do with 2016 (imagery team: can we add animated flames to the word 2016? No? Okay fine) than we thought.

So let’s give in. Let’s call today a sick day. Let’s allow our brains to slow to a crawl. To help, we’ve sorted through two billion (ish) shopping pages so you can fill the wintery holes in your closet and save some money without bottoming out the last of your energy stores. Rest up, chicken little, 2017 is going to need you. For now, let us help:

If you really really really need a coat to stay warm this winter…

If you really need some soft shit to wear to keep your heart and other torso organs safe…

If you’re sick of jeans but sorely lacking in serious trousers…

If your sneakers are making you sad and you’re desperate for new boots…

If your bag is your fifth limb but all of yours are falling apart…

Does this ^ not look like one of those kid’s toys where you twist the levels to make different outfits? Here’s what I’d twist: this blue picnic blanket for a coat over this blue turtleneck over these blue trousers over these pink boots with this red bag, because Leandra told me I can clash if I want to. What would you pick?
