Because it’s Sunday

And maybe you don’t know what to wear

In spite of the cold ass cold, you have places to go (cue the incessant walking photos), people to be–not to be confused with see–am I right?

I was originally going to suggest that you wear a blazon of outfit not unlike this one on the particular, wretched Sunday morning that prompts you attend your childhood BFF’s bridal brunch somewhere obscure and remote but located in the heart of [insert neighborhood you hate here,] notwithstanding the long-ass night you had. Which, mind you, started the evening before and essentially just ended, like, 20 minutes ago. You want to be in pajamas, it’s early but late, and yet you have social obligations. ON A SUNDAY.

So what’s a girl to do? Ah, yes, wear pajamas to said social obligation. Duh. Because when push comes to shove, or heel comes to height, there is almost no garment a pair of fancy shoes cannot formalize. And as that saying goes: when you feel like shit, wear something you love.

It’s “Memorial Day Weekend,” though, so maybe the above scenario can’t really be applied but let’s meditate in favor of weather that will allow short sleeves–no jackets–and the ability to walk without feeling that fucking chill abuse you to the bone. Hear, hear?

Oh wow! Such an inspiring outfit! Love it!

  • Well. P.

    I loved the patterned pants

  • Nico
  • Oliver Lips

This outfit is gorgeous! You can truly see that the pants are from Dries van Noten.

  • =^..^=

That is such a fun-ass blouse: I’d wear it EVERY Sunday !

  • You know what I love about your style is that you’re essentially wearing 3 statement pieces, but you make it look totally accessible and not like you’re just peacocking (or whatever Cathy Horyn called it). I am hardcore in love with that blouse.

    • Also, I was stuck in a bit of a clothing rut, literally falling out of love with clothes, until I saw this! Now I’m browsing Shopbop instead of revising. But I’m content. Thank you MR

  • Joana Gomes

Those heels look so perfect against the plaid pattern.

Fantastic outfit, I am especially coveting those night-time/day-time/fun-time pants! I wondered if you were planning on doing a post for summer repellers on a budget? I adore your site, but as a seventeen year old student from England, none of your kickass pieces are within my price range…

  • Jill S

MY god, those Ferragamos are gorgeous! I won’t say anything else about
anything else. Weekends with obligations can be tough, but without
friends our lives would be less rich. There, I said it anyway.

    • Leandra Medine

      I love this.

  • Brenda Schwartz

STOP cutting your hair! And yes, I noticed.

  • s

i just love all the quirky elements in this outfit, and all of them for that matter!

  • Fancy shoes really do hide a multitude of sins…and pajama pants. 😉

You look really comfy and like it 🙂

What? There is no way those are pajama pants! It’s incredible that you are able to make something such as pj pants look formal! TEACH ME YOUR WAYS.

  • deanna

Wow, that blouse is terrible! Although i admire you for truly living the Repeller brand.

  • jaclyn

you are absolutely right there is nothing fancy heels cant formalize! another thing–those early but late days! glorious outfit, btw.

Im trying to find the shirt on the website you are refering to, but I can’t find it?? 🙁 i just loooove your outfit!

  • Sheena

Man that Dries tartan is so refreshing after all the done to death checks. I just don’t know if I can justify over $400 on a flannel shirt. Then again, it wouldn’t be my most ridiculous purchase in my long history of unjustifiable purchases.

  • The Provoker

That sacai blouse is stunning, very comme des garcon in a way. I love your rings too the way you have the thumb and forefinger connected. I just posted the exclusive backstage shots I took of CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS BA Graduate show, very cool designs and crazy textures, guaranteed you’d be PROVOKED!

    Amazing pants and shoes!

    happy memorial day!

  • Loving those shoes.

  • twofortheshowblog

I have the same Dries trousers and I love them. Slouchy silky plaid = chic comfort dressing!

  • Preach it, woman.

  • MzelleLisa
  • Love this whole outfit. I think that pajamas — if tailored properly — should really be
accepted into acceptable wear. Now, this shouldn’t be confused with the sloppy
ensembles that “grace” grocery stores late at night or early morning, usually paired with puffy slippers and a sweatshirt of a college that no family member has attended.
The look has to be clean, such as the above. One of my favorite shirts is a
men’s flannel that, judging by the shape, is really a men’s pajama top. No
matter, it can look quite Dries and the presence of a collar, buttons, and
pocket help to relieve it of any bedtime look.

    Dear Leandra,

You are such a wonderful giver of outfit per occasion advice. How does one where something they enjoy (perhaps a little funky) while avoiding looks from the wedding party. I have no problem dressing for myself, but find that weddings are the only occasions that cause problems. Any advice?

  • Elaine R

Oh fuck off I never look this cool in plaid pants. This makes me jealous

  • Lauren at adorn la femme

This is by far my quintessential Man Repeller outfit! This shows off your fun/funny persona and your stunning fashion sense all in one tremendous look!

  • Reyes
  • Zaena

Totally agree shoes can make or break an outfit- I teamed my Mulberry heels with my pajama trousers and whilst the look was still pretty casual they definitely smartened it up!

  • Mila

Hi Leandra!! i send you an email from Nylon mx. We love you, please answer. 🙁 🙁

  • That shirt is dope! Werk it Chick!

  • nicole blonder

Amazing, you will always have the best style.

  • Your jacket is freaking amazing!

  • Love this blouse, it’s so cool with its layers. Do you really wear heels on a Sunday afternoon? They do make the look 😉

  • Avery

I have an idea to run by you:

I have recently had to purchase several pairs for a construction project (talk about man-repelling), and I’d love to know how you would style them afterwards. I mean, I paid good money ($3) for them at Goodwill!

  • Gawd I love those pants!!! I probably won’t be able to pull off the slouchiness because of my short heights but it still makes for some great eye candy. 🙂

  • Heather

I would love this site so much more if you stopped with the unnecessary swearing. It cheapens your message.

  • mona

looove your style! you are so inspiring to me… 🙂

  • Captive Louise

I welcome tips to overcome the cold while wearing little clothing. Seriously, can’t leave the house without at least one coat/jacket ever. I usually have to pile them on in order to not freeze with the cold Porto wind 🙁

  • Neo Lulu

So comfy! Can’t wait till Sunday 🙂

  • Nice top

    Lots of love,
