Easy, Breezy

Lifestyle Mirror Cover Realness

Photo by Bridget Flemming, suit by Diane von Furstenberg.

…But I ain’t no beautiful cover girl. No, I’m just fighting an apparent (albeit uninvited) distaste for full eyebrows. How do I kick this damn picking habit? I did not think I would have the opportunity to reference trichotillomania more than like, three–maybe four–times in the course of my entire life, but 2013 has already proven substantially otherwise.

My Lifestyle Mirror cover went live a few hours ago, so, here is a teaser photo. Should you feel as inclined to click through, there is a video waiting at the tail of that slideshow. In it, you will find that I sound like an angry history teacher only I know nothing about history (other than that in the year 586 B.C. there was a huge fight among religious parties resulting in the destruction of one such party’s temple, which is not discussed in the aforementioned video but still worthy of note in the grand scheme). Ultimately, the decision to stay here or go there is yours–I’m just letting you know that historically (see what I did just there?), I am prone to get decidedly sensitive and reflect negativity toward those who leave me.

What? Okay, bye!

History, eyebrows, balloons … Their connection elusive yet real. Kudos.

girl, you can convey your point like no one, and yes you can write like no other motherfucker in this town. You are highly admirable for your accomplishments at such tender age and so genuinely quirky and weird in the best way possible that I feel compelled to write this to you. Im sure you get this all the time, but you deserve it. You got some balls, girl!

  • Zainab

Love your writing style!! I would so love to have a conversation with you one day. And by conversation, I mean, just hear you talk! Not at all weird I hope! xx http://theempressclothes.blogspot.com.au/

  • Dayna

It’s so funny how they keep asking you over and over again about how you started the blog! We must have heard the Topshop story a million times, and you just make it shorter every time! Now it’s just like “I was buying clothes. No boyfriend. My friend told me it was because of my clothes. Went home. Created the blog”. Hahahaha.

    • Leandra Medine

I am with you, sister. Topshop. No man. Me. Repeller. Publish.

      • Martine

Hahaha! I’m not going to get all groupie because you replied, but you’re awesome!
        Saludos from Argentina!

    • Charlotte

      My thoughts exactly haha!

  • saw the video as well. knocked it out of the park.

  • Lauren at adorn la femme

I will always remember you hamming it up while wearing the bikini under a big winter coat and crazy high heels in the middle of winter! That wild and crazy girl is who I truly love~ even more than all the glamour which is also such a big part of you! Congrats!

The DVF suit is everything and your stories are the best. Thank you for a delightful Monday night laugh.

  • When did you get so damn classy?

And when does man repellance evolve into grace? Could use some pointers here.

  • You look amazing mama. Love your entire outfit!

  • Dana

what lipstick/eyeshadow were you wearing in the video? thanks!

  • Zara

Ugh. I adore you so hard.

  • Wind-up bird

Anytime you champion self-expression and dressing for yourself I get all fuzzy and fiery inside. I say this all the time, but when you say it, millions of people listen. Keep up the positive influence, it really makes a difference.

  • Bonnie Clyde

    Love it!!

  • Savannah Martin

I am so glad I found you.

Okay, I thought I’d speak for pretty much everyone else out there reading your blog, (well…I assume?) even if I have no interest in the intro to the post – e.g. for this post, as someone incredibly lanky, jumpsuits do not suit. I do not wear them, ever, as my bean like features are only more enhanced. Yet despite this, I am still drawn to that ‘read more’ as though I can’t possibly leave your blog without clicking it. And I’m sure you get told this every day, and me saying it will be nothing new. But your wit is outstanding, you make me laugh out loud, to the point where people turn and look at me. Do I give a shit? No, of course I don’t. Because I like you Man Repeller, I like you a lot.

    • Leandra Medine

I do not get this everyday and when it comes on a particularly cold, snowy Tuesday morning, I just want to pull my pants down (jumpsuit, really) and give you a naked bear hug (but I won’t. I promise.)

      • Rose Marie

I’m up for it, two women hugging each other naked. Can you even get much more man-repelling than that?

As you’ve taken the time to reply to my comment, which has nothing short of made my day, (you should have seen the look on my face when I’d seen that had replied. Now THAT was man-repelling, please see attached picture) I would love for you to take even more time out of your day, and look at my new blog. X

        • Rose Marie

I’ve just realised I did not actually attach a picture, and nor did I provide a link to my blog, so the above comment was definitely a fail. Allow me to make up for it…

  • Ohmy, this photo is just stunning.

  • Gabrielle

As far as I know, there are no rehab for Zara addicts like ourselves so we shoudn’t feel guilty… should we?

  • This is amazing! xo, Christina

  • L’Oliphant

    absolutely fabulous!

  • when we wander

I love how absolutely down to earth you still remain despite how incredibly talented and admired you are. I keep coming back for your wonderfully hilarious writing style and the fact that you always have something interesting to say.

  • Lisa Simone Daniels

    And she did it again!

  • kiiyha

awesome! you look great in all these looks x

  • Sarah

I have always liked you Leandra, but this video, I just fell in love with you!

  • CDJ

omg. thank you. my eyebrows suffer the same fate. i used to feel psycho, now i feel cool. LOVE YAH.

  • Eden

Your writing IS the best, and you do convey your point so brilliantly. You are to the Blogsphere what Lena Dunham is to the TV-world.

Also, this DIY haircut of yours is chic (I’m aware as to how much you love that word) as fuck!

    • Eden

One more thing, are the pieces you are wearing from your new collection?

    • Leandra Medine

This is a huge fucking compliment, I don’t know what to do with it. Re: the clothes, just the yellow shirt in the interview is from the collection but the first shipment drops on Feb 14th. You will be the first to know.

  • Betsy

You’re making your own clothing line? I have never been so excited!!!!!

  • A Pampilha

I understand you so much! you´re perfect and Topshop..

  • Adrienne

Whoa, you’re starting your own line? How did I miss this?

  • I love it – watched you video and now I’m back to tell you

    ♥ Thankfifi

  • I’m in college studying journalism and I like to think that I’m a good writer but your blog is what I aspire to be. There is only one other person who has captured me by words so completely and she writes K-Pop fan fiction (Google what that is and laugh). I thank you for the daily laughs and the “I’m weird and silly and I don’t give half a fuck” way you approach yourself. You are one of my heroes, Leandra, and I don’t say this to just anyone. Thank you for being you and, please, do not stop writing because I will not stop reading.

I really am enjoying watching you switch things up over the past week! The bold prints and wacky color combos of DVF seem to suit you well, and make her clothing VERY easy to add the Man Repeller touch to them!

I am older than you, but still aspire to write like you do…you know, once I get over the fact that people actually read it and judge me for it. 😉 I hear vodka works well to help get over that hump?

  • Kris

You really are fantastic!! I adore your blog, and I am so impressed with how beautifully you run your life. It’s inspiring!

  • The Provoker

WOW LEANDRA, You’re a star!! A gorgeous man repeller in such a provoking DVF suit!! I LOVED THE VID TOO, you rock! I’ve just bought a new pair of SS13 Céline loafers in hopes to provoke in minimalism, I’d say it’s
still quite provoking, do tell what you think on my investment on these new hooves lol 😉

Try fake nails. Even if you think they are tacky, they make it harder to pull the hair. They don’t even have to be that long.

  • Captive Louise

I have no idea if someone has said it before in the comment section but you look so much like Bianca Jagger in these pictures, it’s not even funny. Your interview is adorable, and the one of you and your Hub in ITG was seriously heartwarming. Made me wanna go out and grab dinner with you guys one of these days :>
