Where were you before this?
I was at Time Inc. as a Digital Account Manager. I was responsible for making sure all of our clients got what they paid for and that their campaigns were executed properly.
What did you go to school for?
I went to school for Business Finance with a minor in Marketing. I was actually pre-med my first year, then realized I hate BioChem.
How did you get started at Man Repeller?
Kate Barnett, the President of MR, reached out to me on LinkedIn (sometimes it pays off to keep LinkedIn updated!). We met almost a year ago just to chat, but I wasn’t ready to leave my job at the time, so we stayed in touch. Fast forward to winter 2016, when I met Patty. This is when I really knew that if the opportunity is knocking at my door a second time, I couldn’t say no. Best decision of 2017 so far!
Favorite part of your job?
Brainstorming new ideas for brand partnerships. I love that everyone on the MR team gets in on conceptualizing new ideas — I think it makes them feel more organic and less forced. It’s super unique to work at a place where the employees are, in some senses, both the brand and the audience.
Least favorite part of your job?
When you’re working with a brand, there’s an underlying understanding that you have one shot to get things right. One campaign, one video, one story, etc. That leaves less room for iteration than is sometimes ideal for such a creative process. The pressure to get things right on the first try can sometimes be intense, but it’s also probably what makes the job fun.
What’s one thing that surprised you in your path up until now?
If you speak it into existence, it will happen. I went on a trip with my friend before knowing I would have anything to do with the MR brand. On that trip, we randomly brought up MR in discussion and all the great accomplishments the brand has achieved in such a short time and how much we loved it. Literally the next day, Kate reached out. Kismet!
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be an Owner/Founder of an emerging artist record label. I love music like the next guy, but what I love most is fresh talent. Hoping to make the new Kanye.
What’s one piece of advice you can offer to someone who wants a job like yours?
Don’t think about the title because it’s different everywhere you go. Think about everything you love to do and how you can merge it all together. The title and job will follow.
What’s one piece of advice you have for someone who has no clue what they want to do?
Create your ultimate playlist and start a vision board while listening to it. Allow your mind to wander and watch your ideas flow. Thank me later Ms. CEO!
Tell me something weird about you.
I love to hug. Bring it in!
