5 Movers and Shakers to Get You to 5 PM
Although I moved my fingers to type this and vaguely shook the keys below, I’m not the mover nor the shaker on the map today. As it happens, some people are out and about this week using their energy to nudge society forward while I just used up all of mine resisting the temptation to consume a second lunch.
Let’s discuss then get inspired to do some nudging of our own.
1. Miley Cyrus + Marilyn Minter + Marc Jacobs = Planned Parenthood
Artist Marilyn Minter teamed up with Miley Cyrus and Marc Jacobs to create two custom t-shirts to be sold exclusively at Marc Jacobs for $50 a pop and all net proceeds will go directly to Planned Parenthood. If you like women or maybe just want a tee of Miley Cyrus licking a window, I highly recommend you check them out. I won’t ask any questions.
2. Robin Wright fought for equal pay on House of Cards
Robin Wright recently addressed unequal pay at one of Rockefeller Foundation’s Internal Dialogue events and spoke about her own run-in with it on House of Cards. She said, “I want to be paid the same as Kevin,” and, because they aren’t idiots, they agreed. Go Claire! I hope women around the world will feel inspired to do the same.
P.S. Isn’t it weird to imagine calling Kevin Spacey…Kevin? He’s so not a Kevin!
3. Vetements will show at Paris Couture Week
It’s possible no one in the fashion world as been called a mover and shaker more in the last year than Vetements, and their recent invite to Paris Couture Week did the opposite of slowing that down. Couture DHL coming in so hot right now.
4. Coverstory is a new online boutique that’s changing the market
If your lizard brain keeps reading that as “controversy” then you’re not alone but you’re also very wrong!!! Because there is nothing controversial about cool-ass clothes being made in sizes that celebrate and honor larger body shapes.
Coverstory is a brand new online shop that’s changing the plus-size market (which we should stop calling “plus-size” in 3, 2, 1…).
“I saw that everything that was available [in larger sizes] was either way too sexy or way too matronly, there’s just nothing that was very modern and chic,” said Founder Heidi Kan.
5. Uber adds a safety feature for families
Uber doesn’t always do stuff right, but a renewed focus on safety and transparency has inspired some cool new features like ETA-sharing with friends and now, trip-sharing with family members.
Hope this is just the beginning of Uber evolving to better reflect the concerns of its users. Maybe then we’ll all feel a lot better about spending way too much money on it.
