3 Weekend Outfit Ideas with Victoria’s Secret Model Dany Braga
If you have plans, I have outfits
It should probably go without saying that the “practical” dressing advice stories that we run on Man Repeller are not practical at all. On the contrary, we are singularly motivated by the concept of YOLO dressing — that is, putting on your favorite clothes just for the hell of it and then doing all the quotidian things that you are wont to do (laundromat hanging, supermarket shopping, toenail clipping) so as to add an element of both literal and figurative color to your days.
For this week’s installment of What to Wear This Weekend, Brazilian model Dany Braga — the former Givenchy model most recently known for her work with Victoria’s Secret — volunteered herself as a spokesperson for the aforementioned YOLO dressing.
We met at The NoMo Hotel in Soho on a Friday morning last month to answer the question ON THE TIP (in the back) OF EVERYONE’S (no one’s) TONGUES (minds): What would she wear this weekend if I were the one dressing her in garments from my own closet? What resulted was the following:
Look 1, Saturday morning: I asked Dany where she’d wear this, she said to a cocktail party. I suggested that she consider it to run supermarket errands on a Saturday morning.
Her response was, isn’t it too formal? Mine was: “What actually is a supermarket errand?” I also explained that if you add sneakers, what you’re wearing almost immediately becomes appropriate garb within the boundaries of any informal dress code. Not to mention that she came in wearing thigh-high boots and a mini skirt.
Look 2, A Weekend Evening. When I asked Dany where she’d wear this, she suggested that it was a sufficiently good case for red-carpet dressing. I tilted my head back and laughed like an evil health food connoisseur telling you that fruit is bad for you because what I had in mind was for her to wear this to pick up her goddaughter from gymnastics practice on a weekend evening.
Did she concur? Of course not. But I do believe that by the final look she was getting the hang of what it truly means to YOLO dress. Case in point…
Look 3, No Timestamp.
As we walked up a flight of stars, contemplating the perfect location for a head scarf, sunglasses, velvet socks and feathered slides, Dany suggested wearing this on casting calls with rolls of salami scotch-taped to the bottom of her shoes so that she’d feel like she was on roller skates. So what if I embellished the part about salami — she has it. We’re dressed. Let’s go.
