Now is the time to break out the color — to drop all of the crayons out of their box. Just dump them right onto the floor like you’re looking for your keys.
And you are. Color will unlock all the other doors.
Now is the time to find a pair of scissors, then clip the pieces you’re sick of but can’t bear to throw away.
Or bring the scissors to the tailor, tell him you have bad motor skills and ask him to do it for you.
Now is a really good time to invest in a hat. Just one. And when I say invest, I mean buy a beanie and stuff it in your bag. Don’t worry about how dumb you think you look in it; when it snows, the only thing that makes you look dumb is being cold.
And in case you haven’t yet, get a coat. A great one.
Get a scarf that clashes.
Get a bomber.
And in times of desperation, get creative.
Pair purple with purple.
Green with green.
Red with corporate blue.
In groups of two, make sure at least one person has an umbrella.
In groups of three, make sure at least two people aren’t on their phones.
In groups of four or more take bets on the first person to quote “Formation.”
And in groups of one…
Put on your favorite pants with your favorite shirt — you can think about how they look together later.
Put on your sneakers on for the sake of a walk, not a trend.
Head down your favorite block.
And think to yourself:
Ah. So this is what they meant when they said “street style.”
