I’m a big proponent of flats. Flats with skirts. Flats with shorts. Flats with wedding gowns. Flats on a bagel.
And while we’ve talked about loafers, and ruminated on heeled sneakers, we’re finally honing in on the oft-overlooked lace-up, casual flat. A tennis shoe, if you will. Which is precisely because when the opportunity arose to collaborate with Superga, my response was an immediate and passionate: “duh.” And when it was time to choose the fabric? Velvet and tweed. Naturally.
There’s just something incredibly appealing about pairing a seemingly utility-focused, casual sneaker with fancier clothes. For the collection, we went a step further, creating mid- and low-top sneaks in black, navy, green and red velvet, and metallic-flecked tweed. It’s like a society lady-who-lunch’s prized blazer, but for your feet.
