Mackage Gets Man Repelled

Hey hot potatos, I'm home again! And this time, I promise to stay. Apologies for the lack of posts, unless, you know, you can't stand my posts in which case, I think you owe me a "thank you."London was fundon, I was there for work doing really fancy things like keeping my pinky popped but it's nice to be back, namely because the UK abuses its citizen everyday with their currency. I came back with 40 pounds in my wallet which I think is enough to close on a Fifth Avenue duplex with park views. Let you know.

And now, for our feature presentation. During the one day time span I was back in New York between Paris and London, I was on Mercer and Spring, at the Mackage boutique styling their windows.

These ladies were in dire need of a grand ol' lesson in repelling, namely because they are immobile promiscuous creatures with an affinity for posing naked. And so, I barged into the store.
blouse: The Kooples, shorts: Club Monaco, purse: Alex Wang
Mouth wide open, lips tucked tight and began to wikidywork.
My first order of business was obviously getting in to character so I put on a pair of Mackage utility pants, I ended up leaving with them later--they've got the loveliest silk pocket and waist detail--and a cool Ass, capital A, leather jacket.
I'll be honest with you, I didn't know much about their ready-to-wear but I have come across a good leather jacket or two.
Needless to say I was impressed...look at the shoulders on that thing!
When came time to start dressing the mannequins...
I was too busy playing patty cake with them.
And using their arms as phones, etc.
Eventually, I pulled it together.
 And...
 Gave them all...
Didn't last long though.
In fact, I started playing Who Wore it Best contests with the ceramic ladies.
Ultimately, I won because I layered shoulder pads. Also because I'm the only who voted.
And before you knew it...
My mannequins were dressed and ready! Go see them live! They're on Mercer between Spring and Prince!

From left: Ceramic Girl #1 wears a leather mullet coat with an all white insane asylum chic look underneath it. CG #2 wears with a pink blouse, bow tie optional with that fantastic red leather jacket you'd seen earlier. She gets two belts for being courageous and high waist white tea shorts for being fancy. CG #3 took a more western route and re-established the canadian tuxedo as more a cotton tuxedo with a studded button up, buttoned up and studded cotton pants that channel their inner torture instrument. CG #4 is less a repeller more just a babe in her pouffy mini dress that features a reversed racer back up top and buttery leather cropped moto jacket. I wanted to crop her torso, but no one was having it. And finally, CG #5 the leather gem. Blush pink leather shorts (which, OMG, you may or may be able to win in a future post) with a cozy, yes, cozy, leather blanket coat. If you could see the shoulder pads on her t-shirt you would be all, "Balmain who?"

Now OMFG, here's the best part: in light of the mannequins looking like babes, Mackage wants to offer you, all MR readers and flamingos alike, a 20% discount when shopping any of these looks online or in store. Holy grail! Just type in "mackagegetsmanrepelled" at check-out. Kewl.

All in all a fun night.
Especially this part.

  11. your inappropriate use of the word rape is disgusting. i love your blog but I am very disappointed in this.

    ReplyDelete
  12. to be honest, I didn't even read past the word rape. I'm shocked to see an otherwise intelligent young woman use such an awful and inappropriate word.

    ReplyDelete
  13. whoa, what's up with the use of 'rape'? i see someone else has commented on it too, but honestly, that's not okay. i normally read and love your blog, but this put me off it a bit, to be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I love your blog but I want to agree with those who said it before me-- the use of rape isn't okay and makes a lot of us very uncomfortable.

    ReplyDelete
  15. rape isn't funny, please don't treat it like it is.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Your casual use of the word rape to denote domination is absolutely appalling. It is not synonymous with power, it's a dehumanizing act that no one, not even the spawn of Hitler and Satan himself deserves to be put through. I'm sick of seeing it thrown around like a sack of...hot potatoes. It's people like you that make other people think it's okay to say things like that. Rape ruins lives, destroys souls, and contributes to the most painful suffering than you can ever imagine, and you loosely throwing it into this blog takes away from all victims of rape, as if it were some kind of joke as you obviously think.

  17. haha love that you called them immobile sluts lol. looks like a funn little activity to dress the mannequin. and i do believe that you won the who wore it best so now you have another vote lol. love the CL's they are hot!

  18. Wow, seriously, did you just use the word rape in that context? I am really shocked and thought that you were above that, I couldn't read the rest of the post and take it seriously.

  19. The blush leather shorts look beyond adorable on you!!

  20. I am always disappointed when I see the word "rape" being used in contexts like this. It surprises me how many otherwise intelligent, respectful people abuse this term. Rape is not a joke, the word "rape" should not be used to refer to anything other than actual rape; to use it in contexts like this simply cheapens the meaning of a word that is already far too trivialized in our society.

Not to mention your frivolous and inappropriate use of the word "slut" (come on, how old are you? 9?), as well as the whole "insane asylum chic" thing... I'm really put off of your blog and probably won't read it again. I hope you don't take this as an attack, but simply as a push for you to educate yourself.

  23. don't get my wrong, i always love your styling and such but i was a but disappointed with the styling of these looks.. maybe its because i see them from a computer screen .. i dont know.

i think it was a bad choice to put so much white clothing on white mannequins. it kinda fades into it and becomes obsolete.

just an opinion.. I STILL LOVE YOU so haters, please dont hate on this.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize defending rape victims meant i take myself too seriously. I'll try to be more casual and carefree when discussing things that ruin lives.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I LOVE the jacket with the studded shoulder detail. What a unique interpretation of an ongoing trend. Mackage has such a utilitarian chic aesthetic to their clothes which is such a strong and sexy look. Not to mention they have some of the best leather jackets anyone could hope to find!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't suppose I need to reiterate this, but I feel like it needs to be said... Your use of the word rape and sluts is really inexcusable. This isn't about taking myself too seriously or just wanting to hate on your blog (in fact, I've always enjoyed reading your hilarious take on fashion). It's about keeping these words from triggering a victim and ruining someone's day (or more).
Please be more careful and considerate when you choose certain words, especially when they're completely out of context and unnecessary.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Those leather shorts are SO cute!!! You look fab in them, too of course.

I take no offense at your original word usage.
I agree, the British pound is raping citizens and tourists alike. Also to lesser extent the Euro.
The Rape of Nanking was another tragedy. Females do not own the usage of the word.

  37. You're a freak. In the best way there is.
Your sense of humor is very close to mine, although I must admit you are way crazier. In a good way, again. Man repeller is the shit.
I also think you're damn gorgeous and that even man repelling clothing wouldn't stand in the way if I were a guy, and into chicks. Because if that was the case, which it isn't because I'm female and definitely into the weaker sex aka men, I would think you are heaven.

    ReplyDelete

  41. LOL way to change what you wrote without admitting fault.

Just so you know "These ladies were in dire need of a grand ol' lesson in repelling, namely because they are immobile promiscuous creatures with an affinity for posing naked" is still offensive, you are equating the way a woman dresses with her sexual history.

    ReplyDelete
  42. um,
could i tentatively point out that one of the definitions of the word "rape" as a verb is "to seize or take by force". this can mean anything, not just sex. as someone who lives in the uk, i can definitely assert that this happens to our money on a daily basis as a result of inflation/taxes.

don't be afraid to be yourself; i'm sure the people who read this blog on a regular basis know you and your writing style enough to know that you would never deliberately say anything to offend.
i'm not going to tell the story on a comment forum, but i once came genuinely, dangerously close to being raped. and it was the most terrifying experience of my life. and i wasn't offended by what you said.
that's only my opinion, but i just wanted you to know.

    ReplyDelete
  43. your writing style is obnoxious and your ~commenters are questionably intelligent.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I always adore your posts. It's unfortunate that some readers have to take words (especially when they are CLEARLY not meant to offend)so seriously -- keep being you girlie. The real shame here is that some people can't express their opinion in a polite way, especially if they themselves are so sensitive. Your writing style is only obnoxious to those who are immune to wit.

    ReplyDelete
  45. ManRepeller, this is YOUR blog and you can write and say whatever you like! You don't have to change what you say to accomodate those that have sticks up their asses. Whoops. Did I offend someone??

You're awesome!!! Keep being you and don't apologize for it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Haters: Get the fuck outta here! Go be annoying, bland and bug other people/sites with your lack of personality elsewhere. Fucking losers.

    ReplyDelete
  47. People need to lighten up and stop taking every single word people use so seriously. Life is too short to be constantly offended.

Your blog is fantastic and unique because of your humor. If people don't like it they should go elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Someone would have to be pretty dumb to think that getting uppity about a blog post on a fashion blog has ANYTHING to do with defending rape victims. Unless the only way to defend rape victims is actually to avoid saying RAPE. Maybe that is the case. I always thought it was pretty distasteful to claim that metaphorical uses of the word RAPE threaten rape victims--talk about trivializing rape and rape victims.

Besides, the institution of rape started with a Zeus raping Europa. he was a bull, at the time.

  50. PEOPLE DONT UNDERSTAND SARCASM. Leandra you are hysterical. If people dont get it they should just get off manrepeller. No one's forcing you to be on this blog you "rape victim defenders" so stop being so obnoxious.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Seriously, people! Take a chill pill. She's just joking! Do you really think the words "sluts" and "rape" will lose their original meaning and importancy just because she's using the words in a different context? The terms "Face-raped" and "eye-raped" are used all the time (atleast in Norway), and no one seems to react the same way to these terms? Not that I would want them to do so. I honestly just think people who are grown up manage to tell the difference between a real-life, awful rape and a methaphorical rape.

    ReplyDelete
  52. as someone already mentioned the word rape as a verb used with an object means:
"to seize, take, or carry off by force, to plunder (a place); despoil."

worth repeating for the soapbox militia

    ReplyDelete
  53. seems like someone pissy linked your blog and complained about your word usage, sending over a bunch of people already up in arms. i never quite know when to draw the line with that word myself, but it was nice of you to keep things simple and just change it.

to the commenter who then complained about the use of the word promiscuous regarding inanimate faceless ceramic statues .... seriously? i can't even figure out how to respond to that. wow.

    for your liberal arts education,

    rape
    n.
    1. The crime of forcing another person to submit to sex acts, especially sexual intercourse.
    2. The act of seizing and carrying off by force; abduction.
    3. Abusive or improper treatment; violation: a rape of justice.

so there: rape isn't only forced sexual intercourse. read a book, read a book, read a motherfuckin' book.

And the sluttiness of naked mannequins. BITCH, I LOVE YOU JUST THE WAY YOU ARE. Keep on keepin on!

  69. PC hyper vigilance is the root of censorship and completely inconsistent with Constitutional rights we enjoy as Americans. Before spouting off read the blog and judge the word in context. Obviously, the post is neither referring to sexual assault nor intended to offend/minimize the victims. You can't bully people to stop using a word simply because in another contexts it refers to a violent act particularly where the term does not even relate to a class of people (unlike vulgar words that, for example, refer to categories of race or disability - which I agree should not be used in any context).

I understand where these "haters" are coming from. Given that girls from all over the world read your blog, their stand may have come from something deeper than what we may assuming as just being semantically nosy.

Nonetheless, I didn't think it was offensive. They have their side, and your supporters have theirs too. So let's all just get along please, for the sake of pretty clothing! We love you Leandra! :)

  78. When you said you removed "offending" words from this post, I had to look back and try to find out what the offending words even were. I couldn't remember being offended by anything when I read it... and I am a rape victim.

Also, I lived in London this year, and they DO rape you with the currency. And sluts? Really? Somebody said, "what are you, 9?"... well, I say to this commenter, what are YOU? 9?! Seriously, nobody gets offended by words like "slut" anymore. Except sluts, maybe.

  87. Though I can understand being embarrassed and/or feeling as if you should change the words, keep on keepin' on, don't let the haters get you down. If people were to bother getting up in arms about things that really do affect people (violent music, etc) I would be able to understand their point of view, but getting self-righteous and indignant over the proper use of the word "rape" (as evidenced by other commenters above) is just being oversensitive and unrealistic. I love your blog and will continue to look forward to your posts.
